Paleo Sides for the Perfect Summer Cookout

Holy moly is it beautiful in Chicago today! I started my weekend off with breakfast with family, a brief run in the sunshine and now I'm typing this up before heading to a baseball game. I may live in a city that hosts the World Series champs (go Cubbies!) but my first love with always be the Motor City Kitties (Detroit Tigers.) They're in town for a series against the White Sox and since the weather is so nice, how can we refuse to take in a game!?

Tomorrow, I head down to Southern Illinois to spend the day on a farm with a bunch of family celebrating a few of our new graduates. There will be games, excellent company and some really tasty food. Between that and the holiday weekend, it's no wonder I've got summer cookouts on my mind! There really are few things more relaxing than hanging outside on a beautiful day with friends/family and enjoying some damn good food.

You might believe that there aren't as many options if you eat Paleo or Gluten Free or Dairy Free or really with any type of limitation, but that's just not untrue! Sure, meat at a cookout is an obvious option but you aren't limited to just that. What's a meal without some sides? Not as good if you ask me!

So, in the spirit of all my side dish loving souls, I've gathered a list of some pretty excellent Paleo and Gluten Free options that will help you have the perfect summer cookout menu. There is something here for everyone. Coleslaw fan? Try one of my most popular recipes - Tangy Coleslaw. It's a delicious twist on a traditional creamy coleslaw. Looking for a more filling side? Try the Healthy Mac and Cheese from Forest and Fauna (Spoiler: It's all veggies! No pasta!) In the mood for something a little less hearty? Side Note: Some of these recipes contain cheese, which is not Paleo. I allow quality cheese in my diet so this is OK for me. If you don't consume dairy, there are still plenty of options for you!
