Gluten Free Red Wine BBQ Wings

It’s Super Bowl weekend and no matter what team you’re rooting for, we’re all cheering for some good apps and snacks. When it comes to big sporting events like this, most people associate the games with chips/dips and a whole lot of beer. It’s no secret that I love beer (it’s literally the most non-Paleo thing I indulge in and I’m not ashamed about that) but lately I’ve been trying to drink less of what it because it really messes with my stomach, my energy and my sleep. When I want a drink, I like to hang out at home and split a bottle of wine with my fiance. I’ve really grown to love the downtime with him and just enjoying a glass.
That happy association is why I was so excited when I got the opportunity to work with Yellow Tail Wine on this post. When the Super Bowl comes around this weekend, rather than joining in with my beer drinking friends, I’m going to stick with my wine. Because wine does have a place in sports viewing sessions! Not sold on that idea? Well, you’re about to be, because whether you’re a wine drinker or a beer drinker - I think we can all agree that BBQ Chicken Wings have a place at parties. And this BBQ sauce is rather special because it’s made with some Yellow Tail Cabernet Sauvignon. This Gluten Free dry red wine pairs nicely with the other flavors I’ve put into this homemade bbq sauce. (PS - all Yellow Tail wines are GF!)
These chicken wings are baked for 40 minutes before tossing them in the sauce, which gives them a nice crispy exterior you’ll love biting into. The sauce gets baked into them for a few minutes after that giving them a nice coating. Of course, there is plenty of this red wine bbq sauce to go around, so you can save some for extra dipping or freeze to use it in a recipe later on. Bring these babies to your Super Bowl party to help feed the whole crew! And don’t forget the rest of the bottle of Yellow Tail wine to indulge in too ;)
- 2 lb chicken wings (cut into drumsticks + wings)
- 1/2 cup Yellow Tail Cabernet Sauvignon
- 6 oz tomato paste
- 3 tbs red wine vinegar
- 3 tbs molasses
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tbs coconut aminos
- 1/3 cup coconut sugar
- 2 tsp chili powder
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
- 2 tsp dijon mustard
- to taste salt
- to taste pepper
