Swap out the Soda for these Fun, Healthy Drinks!
The biggest bad habit I had to break when I adopted a healthier lifestyle was my addiction to diet soda. I consumed a disgusting amount daily and had some in my hand whether it was 7am or 10pm. When we decided to try a Paleo lifestyle, I knew breaking my addiction was going to be difficult, but I went all in. I cut off all soda cold turkey, one week before we started our new lifestyle. I figured that this would give me a week to get accustomed to drinking water and tea, but still allowed me a juice or sports if I really needed something different. I had a week to drink anything else I wanted... and I didn't take it.
One of the things I've realized is that when you make a decision to become healthier is that no matter when the starting date for that change is (1 week, 1 month, etc.) you immediately start becoming more conscious of what you are consuming. I would pick something up and say to myself "this probably isn't Paleo" which led me to find out why it wasn't and what harm it did. Let me tell you, read up on some of the ingredients in diet soda and you will feel like you need a shower. I became so much more aware of what was in what I was trying to drink that I just didn't even want to bother. My week to adjust to Paleo beverages became a week of going cold turkey on unhealthy ones instead.
For some people, cold turkey works better, but I realize this isn't the case for everyone because it can be hard to make huge lifestyle changes all at once. Maybe cutting one thing out at a time will work better for you. Either way, what can make it easier is having some great options to sub in when you have a craving for something unhealthy. These refined sugar free drinks can help keep you on track and feeling less overwhelmed on your journey!
Next time you are craving something tasty, skip the soda and make one of these Paleo drinks instead!
